SWIMMING WITH WHALES IN TONGA ISLANDS. POLYNESIA. ADVENTURE TRAVEL
One of the most fascinating moments that can happen in the nature is to have the possibility of swimming with the biggest animals of the planet. This happens in the Tonga Islands and quite easily, as a story on the blog of my book: www.original-trips.com
This video was a magical moment when a whale breeding or humpback whale of 5 meters approached a few meters and a half of my presence. Curiosity, of course!
It’s hard to explain what you can feel right now. In my case, an immense joy.
How do you get to this experience?
When you are in the boat you are dedicated to observe the horizon. The intention is to discover the mamas whales with their young. Why? Because because having the hatchlings the females hardly move in the ocean dedicating to breastfeed them. They practically only move in vertical movement from the near seabed to the surface. Once we find them we approach them swimming by the sea. Normally not more than 100 0 150 meters. From here we try to locate them at the bottom of the ocean.
Reason? They are mammals and breathe air. We know they will have to surface to breathe. Usually the baby does it every two minutes and the female every four minutes.
That’s when it can happen that the baby can approach us simply to wonder what strange creatures we are.
